    BLUE CRABS - WEEK 6

    Hi Blue Crabs!

It was another amazing meet this past Saturday, as we competed with our good friends and neighbors, the Seahawks. The Blue Crabs pulled out another win with a final score of 359.5 to 268.5. We also had an awesome time cheering on parents and coaches in their relays and then celebrating it all with a pool party! Thanks to everyone who came out!

You can view the complete results from our meet here and photos from the meet here—BIG thanks to Kerry Douty and Nicole Deithrichson! (results and photos are also available by clicking “Meets & Events” in our website menu).

This email contains a list of Shout-Outs, details on Tuesday’s Relay Carnival, some information about our upcoming Mighty Mini Meet, and our team schedule for this week. Please note, there is no meet this Saturday.

    SHOUT-OUTS

The Blue Crabs showed UP for this meet! Across the 143 swimmers who participated in the meet yesterday, we piled up 205 personal bests (see the full list here). We also had five Blue Crabs finish in 1st place in all four of their individual events scoring 20 points each (Mason Garmon, Kyleigh Kauflin, Alberto Nevares, Carmen Nevares, and Eric Yi), and Coach Andrew McDonald chipped in another 18 points. Way to go!

Blue Crabs swimmers set 6 new records: Madison Koehn (25 free, 25 back), Andrew McDonald (50 back, 100 free), Eric Yi (25 free), and our impressive boys crescendo relay team of Eric Yi, Alberto Nevares, Tarek Hussein, Mason Garmon, and Andrew McDonald who put together the fastest time in the FSSL since 2022. You can view all our team records here.

Yesterday’s meet also added four more names to our list of all-star qualifiers, giving the Blue Crabs a total of 35 all-star swimmers so far. New swimmers who have hit all-star qualifying times are Ava Cecilia (25 free, 100 IM, 25 breast, and 25 back), Rhett Henson (25 free), David Shen (25 back), and Piper Wowk (25 back). You can see a full list of all our all-star swimmers here. Congratulations!

Our Shout-Out section would not be complete with some shout-outs to a few of our volunteers. Every meet takes a tremendous amount of effort on the part of many different people that make it all happen. Sam & Pilar Nevares (IT) and Andy Garmon (Starter) are just the best when it comes to running an efficient swim meet. Erik McCannon and Michael Wei both stepped up to serve as Stroke and Turn Judges for the entire meet. Sarah Varela did an outstanding job running our clerk of course and getting swimmers where they needed to be when we needed them. Lastly, it’s hard not to once again thank the Crab Daddies and all of our wonderful Crab Shack volunteers. Y’all are the best. THANK YOU!

    EASTSIDE SPLASHDOWN

We are super excited about the Eastside Splashdown—the FSSL’s first Relay Carnival—that will be held on Tuesday! While we would love it if everyone could participate in this meet, given the number of teams that are coming, we have to keep our entries limited. You can see the full list of swimmers entered into the meet here.

If you have a swimmer participating, please plan to arrive no later than 5:10. If you are able to walk to the meet or carpool, please do so as parking will be the biggest challenge in running this meet. The pool deck will open at 4:30 PM. You can view the schedule and a full list of events here.

    MIGHTY MINI MEET

The Mighty Mini Meet will take place on Thursday, July 17 from 5:00-7:00 PM (there will be no practices this day). This meet is for swimmers—both Blue Crabs and Mini Crabs—8 and under. This will give our younger Blue Crab swimmers an opportunity to try out some different events, and our Mini Crab swimmers an opportunity to make their way across the pool with a kickboard or with the help of a coach. Additional details and information on signing up for this fun event will be sent in a separate email.

    🦀THE WEEKLY CRAB🦀

Things are a bit lighter this week as we take a breather and celebrate America’s birthday before the final stretch of the season. There is no meet on Saturday and there will be no practices on Thursday or Friday. We hope you enjoy this long weekend! As a reminder, please remember the following about our practice procedures:

    • Please remember to sign-in for all practices that are held when the pool is closed. Sign-in is once per-family, per-day. Thank you!
    • On Monday and Wednesday afternoons (days that the pool is open) you must bring your pool pass and enter through the normal pool entrance. All other practices are held when the pool is closed, where you will check-in and enter at the Blue Crab Gate.
    • If you’d like to hang out at the pool after our morning practices end and the pool opens at 12 PM, you will need to first leave the pool deck and then come back in with your pool pass through the regular pool entrance.
