    Blue Crabs - Week 6

    Hi Blue Crabs!

We made it! Despite the miserable forecast for this morning’s meet, the rain (mostly) held off and we had a great time hosting the Ridge Seals. Huge thanks to our amazing Crab Crew for pitching in and pulling off another fun Saturday meet, and a special shout out to Karyn and Erik McCannon for running IT, officiating, and coordinating all of it. Literally, the meet couldn’t have happened without you. THANK YOU! You can check out the meet results here and photos from the meet here.

We have no meet this coming weekend, but we do have the Relay Carnival coming up on Tuesday, July 7. This email contains swimmer shout-outs, details about the Relay Carnival, an update on our volunteer job opening, and a look at the week ahead.

    SWIMMER SHOUT-OUTS

The weather wasn’t warm this morning, but that didn’t keep the Blue Crabs from cooking in the pool. Our 159 swimmers this morning combined for an amazing 181 improved times. We had two swimmers who won every individual event they swam. A big congratulations to Griffin Herzfeld and Eric Yi, both of whom went 4-for-4 and racked up 20 points each for the team. Well done boys! In addition to Griffin and Eric, Colette Nicholes led the way for our girls winning three individual events. Way to go!

    RELAY CARNIVAL INFORMATION

On July 7 at 6 PM we will be hosting our second annual relay carnival—the Eastside Splashdown! Given the number of teams that are involved in this event, not every available swimmer will be able to participate as a swimmer. However, we do need you to indicate whether your swimmer is available to attend the meet. The coaches will then put together the relay teams based upon the available swimmers. Please declare your swimmer(s) by Wednesday, July 1, at 10 PM.

JULY CRAB CREW SIGN-UPS OPEN TOMORROW

The Blue Crabs cannot exist without your help. More than most any other youth activity, a summer swim team depends on families serving one another. Every timer, official, concession worker, clerk of course, and behind-the-scenes helper plays a part in creating a great experience for our kids, families, and community. At registration, every family committed to being part of that effort by serving throughout the season. Blue Crabs families are asked to serve in ways that total at least 3 volunteer points, while Mini Crabs families are asked to earn at least 1.

As of today, more than 40 of our 155 families have already met or exceeded this expectation, racking up the points! If you would like to check your current point total for this season, simply login to your account on urbanabluecrabs.com, click on your name in the top right corner, and select “My Account.” At our end-of-season party, families will receive a raffle ticket for each point that they accrue over the season.

***Please note that families who do not meet the volunteer expectation this season will not be considered returning families during registration next year, so we encourage everyone to sign up to help out while plenty of opportunities remain.

Volunteer sign-up for the rest of the season will open tomorrow morning (Sunday, June 28) at 6 AM. Please don’t wait to sign up! For Mini Crabs families, the upcoming Mini Meet on July 14 is a fantastic opportunity to help out while watching your favorite Mini Crab swim across the pool.

If you have already met or exceeded the volunteer expectation, thank you! We’d appreciate it if you could wait until next week before signing up for these jobs so that every family has the opportunity to play their part in making this season a success. We know many of you are eager to help and that’s a big part of what makes our Blue Crabs summers so great. Thank you!
